When Anxiety Takes Over
Many people feel anxious from time to time. Others experience some level of anxiety in their day-to-day lives as a normal response to stress, which in some situations it can actually be beneficial for them. But, when feelings of anxiety become excessive, when it occurs regularly and begins to interfere with your job, relationships, or other aspects of your daily life, it’s time to pursue professional anxiety therapy.
The following are various anxiety disorders which are commonly experienced by people.
A Panic Attack is a discreet episode when a person experiences unexpected feelings of uneasiness, nervousness, fear, or terror, which is often attached to imminent danger. During times of a Panic Attack, a person may experience shortness of breath, heart palpitations, chest pain, and discomfort, a sense of being smothered or losing control of a current situation.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is characterized by obsessions, which increase anxiety or distress and/or by compulsions, which help to defuse increased anxiety.
Agoraphobia is being anxious about, or avoiding places or situations where there seems to be no way of escape, or feeling that help may not be available in the midst of having a Panic Attack or symptoms associated with a Panic Attack.
Specific Phobia is characterized by a considerable level of anxiety triggered by exposure to a specific object of fear or fearful circumstance, which can result in avoidance behaviour.
Social Phobia is characterized by a considerable level of anxiety triggered by exposure to a certain types of social or performance situations, which can result in avoidance behaviour.
